Photographing The Stunning Pembrokeshire Coast - Part 1
In this short video I take you to a couple of my favourite places to Photograph in Pembrokeshire.
In Part 1 of this series, “Photographing the Stunning Pembrokeshire Coast”, we visit The Green Bridge of Wales and Stack Rocks also known as the Elegug Stacks.
Elegug is the Welsh name for Guillemot. You can see how the Stacks got their name when you visit in breeding season, when the stacks are literally covered in birds, all vying for a space.
Guillemots, like Puffins and Razorbills (also found locally) are members of the Auk Family. They are among the deepest diving birds and are capable of reaching depths up to 180m. I highly recommend a visit to this area if you enjoy or want to begin wildlife photography as you are guaranteed plenty of willing models. You’ll want a 200mm lens as a minimum but ideally 400mm +.
This video was shot when the birds had left for the year. Watch this space for a breeding season update. In the meantime, I’ve attached a shot from earlier in the year to give you an idea of what you can expect.
I’ve visited this spot hundreds of times over the years, either walking my dog (Otto the Groodle/GoldenDoodle ), walking with family or just snatching some peace and quiet. The area does get busy during peak seasons but there are so many little bays and paths you can lose yourself and easily find a spot to shoot away from other explorers/photographers.
Here is one of many shots of the Elegug Stacks.
